Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has completed extensive preparations to remove sacrificial animal waste within eight hours of Eid-ul-Azha, deploying around 13,453 workers across the capital.
The workforce includes 6,553 DSCC employees, 4,700 workers under Primary Collection Service Providers (PCSP) and 2,200 cleaners assigned to 11 temporary cattle markets.
DSCC Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam told BSS that the main waste removal operation will begin at 12 noon on Eid day. He said the aim is to clear all first-day sacrificial waste within eight hours.
He urged city residents not to dump sacrificial waste into drains or sewers. He warned that such practices can spread diseases and trigger severe waterlogging during rainfall.
DSCC Public Relations Officer Md Russell Rahman said a total of 33,942 tonnes of waste is expected to be transported to the Matuail Sanitary Landfill over three days. Of this, 15,935 tonnes will be removed on the first day, 11,776 tonnes on the second day and 6,231 tonnes on the third day.
He said around 174,406 animals are expected to be sacrificed in DSCC areas this year.
To manage the operation, DSCC will deploy 2,117 vehicles and equipment, including 45 compactors, 210 dump trucks, 42 container carriers, excavators, bulldozers and water tankers.
The corporation will also distribute 46 tonnes of bleaching powder, 210 gallons of Savlon and 140,000 biodegradable bags.
A central control room at Nagar Bhaban will monitor the operation round the clock. Separate control rooms will also operate at each cattle market. Executive magistrates and medical teams will remain deployed throughout the operation.
DSCC has opened two hotline numbers, 01709900888 and 02223386014, for public complaints related to sacrificial waste management.
