The forensic report in the case of seven‑year‑old Ramisa has confirmed she was raped before being killed. The findings were disclosed on Sunday after reviewing the forensic analysis.
Sohel Rana, the prime accused in the rape and murder, has been brought before a Dhaka tribunal. His wife, Swapna, has also been produced before it in connection with the case.
After submission of the charge sheet, the tribunal is expected to frame charges on Sunday. The charge sheet has been prepared after completing the DNA test and other formalities of the investigation.
State‑appointed lawyer Azizur Rahman Dulu has already appeared before the court. He said the prosecution’s work will begin once police formally submit the charge sheet. “We hope to complete the trial within the stipulated time,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Bar Council has decided that no member of the Dhaka Bar Association will provide legal services to the defence in this case.
Accused Sohel Rana, arrested on 20 May, gave a confessional statement before the court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid recorded the statement and later ordered that the accused be sent to jail.
Investigators said the suspect admitted to luring the child into a room before committing the crime. He also attempted to destroy evidence and fled the scene afterwards.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly claimed to have consumed yaba prior to the incident. Investigators confirmed no prior enmity existed between the accused and the victim’s family.
The case was filed by Ramisa’s father, Abdul Hannan Molla, at Pallabi Police Station on 20 May. Police produced the accused and his wife in court on the same day and submitted separate petitions in connection with the investigation.
The brutal killing sparked nationwide outrage, with rights groups and international organisations calling for swift justice and stronger protection for children.
