Two men were detained with a pistol and bullets. Their identities were not immediately disclosed, he added.

Liakat’s younger brother Mohammad Zayed, who was present, said Liakat had a court appearance that morning. As they entered, a group of six to seven assailants opened fire. Liakat tried to take shelter inside the court.

Witnesses chased the attackers, capturing two and handing them over to police, while others fled on motorcycles and a white microbus.

Zayed alleged the attack was premeditated, linked to long‑standing political rivalry and local dominance disputes with Khaleq and his followers. He accused Khaleq’s group of involvement in the shooting.

Police said operations are continuing to identify and arrest the other suspects.
