Police are expected to submit the chargesheet on Sunday in the case over the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa in Pallabi area of Dhaka, following the completion of DNA testing.
Investigation officer Sub-Inspector Ohedujjaman Bhuoyan Nipun of Pallabi Police Station told BSS that he is preparing the chargesheet while senior officials examine reports, including the DNA results.
The accused, arrested on May 20, gave a confessional statement before the court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid recorded the statement and later ordered that the accused be sent to jail.
Investigators said the suspect admitted to luring the child into a room before committing the crime. He also attempted to destroy evidence and fled the scene afterwards. During interrogation, the accused reportedly claimed to have consumed yaba prior to the incident. Investigators confirmed no prior enmity existed between the accused and the victim’s family.
The case was filed by Ramisa’s father, Abdul Hannan Molla, at Pallabi Police Station on May 20. Police produced the accused and his wife in court on the same day and submitted separate petitions in connection with the investigation.
The brutal killing sparked nationwide outrage, with rights groups and international organisations calling for swift justice and stronger protection for children.
