The Chattogram Port Authority (CPA), the country’s premier seaport, has introduced a fully online payment system for its revenue collection operations, marking a significant milestone in modernising port management and streamlining foreign trade activities.

Under this new digital framework, users can now settle port-related fees, charges, bills, and other revenue online from any location, effectively eliminating the need for manual and paper-based transactions.

Stakeholders anticipate that this initiative will enhance efficiency, transparency, and speed in port operations while bolstering Bangladesh’s competitiveness in international trade.

According to a press release signed by CPA Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim on 21 May, payments can now be made through various digital channels, including RTGS, NPSB, BEFTN, internet banking, card payment systems, and mobile financial services such as bKash and Rocket.

Officials noted that the system is designed to ease the burden on importers, exporters, C&F agents, and shipping agents by removing the necessity of waiting in long bank queues or navigating complex paperwork.

Faster bill settlements are projected to accelerate cargo clearance and vessel handling operations at the port.

Industry insiders believe the move will help reduce vessel turnaround time, improve supply chain efficiency, and enhance Bangladesh’s standing within global trade and logistics networks.

The CPA highlighted that the online system provides 24/7 payment access from both domestic and international locations, ensuring secure transactions that align with international standards.

The authority also expects the initiative to reduce administrative costs and minimise the risks associated with human error and corruption. Improved coordination between port users and business stakeholders is anticipated to further strengthen the country’s overall foreign trade activities.

The Chattogram Port Authority expressed optimism that this technology-driven system will help transform the port into a more efficient and internationally competitive maritime gateway, making the nation’s import-export processes faster, easier, and more effective.
