State Minister for Health and Family Welfare MA Muhit has stressed Bangladesh’s strong focus on primary healthcare as the foundation for universal health coverage and effective cancer prevention and control.
He made the remarks at the Commonwealth Health Coordination Forum held in Geneva on Sunday. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building equitable and resilient cancer care systems.
Bangladesh Ambassador and Permanent Representative in Geneva Nahida Sobhan accompanied the State Minister during the event, according to the Bangladesh Mission in Geneva.
Muhit presented Bangladesh’s ongoing initiatives, including national cancer management guidelines, expansion of cancer registries, HPV vaccination for adolescent girls, community-based screening and early diagnosis programmes, and efforts to strengthen the oncology workforce and decentralised services.
He also highlighted the need for stronger Commonwealth cooperation in workforce training, digital health systems, research collaboration, and affordable cancer treatment.
The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva facilitated the State Minister’s participation in the forum.
