The historic Sholakia Eidgah Maidan will host the country’s largest Eid-ul-Adha congregation at 9am this year, with authorities announcing extensive preparations, enhanced security, and special transport arrangements for devotees.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Sholakia Eidgah Management Committee held on Wednesday afternoon at the Deputy Commissioner’s office conference room in Kishoreganj.
According to the committee, Mufti Abul Khair Mohammad Saifullah will lead the 199th Eid congregation at the iconic Eidgah, which is widely regarded as one of the largest Eid prayer gatherings in Bangladesh.
To ensure smooth travel for worshippers from different parts of the country, Bangladesh Railway will operate two special train services titled “Sholakia Express,” continuing its arrangement from previous years.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner and committee president Sohana Nasrin. Among others present were committee member secretary and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamrul Hasan Maruf, along with senior officials from various government departments and local political leaders.
Speaking at the meeting, Sohana Nasrin said the Sholakia congregation is one of the country’s most significant religious gatherings and that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure devotees can perform their prayers safely and without inconvenience.
She said strict security arrangements will be enforced in coordination with law enforcement agencies, while relevant departments have been instructed to ensure essential facilities, including transport, ablution areas, safe drinking water, and medical support for attendees.
The meeting also reviewed overall preparations, including law and order, field arrangements, crowd management, and security planning. Authorities decided to deploy two platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), along with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), police, and other law enforcement agencies to maintain security during the congregation.
