BCB president Tamim Iqbal has said action is coming soon against five cricketers linked to fixing in the Bangladesh Premier League after Anti Corruption Unit reports found enough evidence.
Speaking to the media on Thursday at the Sher e Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Tamim said the current board did not start the investigation but decided to move ahead once the proof was clear.
“The investigation had been going on for a long time, and we were not on the board then. If we wanted, we could have delayed it even longer through our power. But when this came in front of me, I asked if we had enough evidence in our hands. After getting the answer, I said, execute it.”
He said the decisions will be announced very soon.
“You will get decisions regarding five people very soon.”
Tamim said the findings are serious and show why the BPL needs major reform.
“There is no point in organizing the BPL in a patchwork manner.”
He said fixing, unpaid salaries, franchise problems, and irregularities have deeply hurt the tournament.
Tamim also shared the financial loss from the last season.
“The last BPL produced a loss of TK14cr to Tk16cr, which is saddening.”
He also revealed that two teams were allowed to build squads without proper registration.
“Two teams weren’t even officially registered to form their teams. They were Noakhali Express and Sylhet Titans.”
His comments have put the BPL under pressure, with fixing claims, financial losses, and franchise failures again raising big questions over how Bangladesh’s biggest T20 event has been run.
