Police have recovered the bodies of two individuals in separate incidents in the district, officials said Thursday.
In Pirganj upazila, the body of a security guard was found with his hands and feet tied inside a deep tube-well room of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC). The deceased was identified as Mofizar Rahman, 45, son of Amjad Hossain of Boroumropur village under Boralampur union.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirganj Police Station Nazmul Haque said the victim used to guard the electric deep tube-well. “Based on primary investigation, miscreants tied his hands and feet inside the room sometime Wednesday night, beat him to death, and later stole copper wires and accessories from three transmitters on electric poles, leaving behind only the empty shells,” the OC told reporters.
Police suspect the miscreants killed Mofizar to carry out the theft. The body was sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, OC Haque added.
In a separate incident, police recovered the throat-slit body of an unidentified man from a Haribhanga mango orchard in Mithapukur upazila. The body was found in the Kasba area of Nagerjat Road under Moyenpur union.
Mithapukur Police Station OC Md. Nuruzzaman said the deceased was wearing a shirt and a lungi, but his identity could not be immediately established. “We recovered the body after being informed by locals,” he said. “Miscreants killed him and left the body at the scene.”
Police Superintendent of Rangpur Mohammad Mozammel Haque said investigations into both cases have been launched with due seriousness. The body from Mithapukur is also being sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
