The Bangladesh Cricket (BCB) Board has dissolved the ad-hoc committees of three divisional cricket associations and approved the formation of a three-member election commission, following the third board meeting held under the ad-hoc committee led by Tamim Iqbal.
Unlike previous meetings, the BCB chose not to hold a press conference following the session, instead communicating its decisions through an official press release.
The ad-hoc committees of the Chattogram, Sylhet and Barishal divisional regional cricket associations have been formally dissolved with immediate effect from 4 May 2026. The committees had originally been constituted under the previous BCB board of directors led by Aminul Haque.
While no specific date for the BCB election was announced, the board confirmed that the process has formally begun. As the first step, a notice will be issued shortly inviting nominations of councillors from all divisions, in accordance with Article 12.7 of the BCB constitution.
The BCB electorate is divided into three categories. Category 1 comprises district and divisional sports organisations, with nominations submitted by Deputy Commissioners. Category 2 covers 76 clubs competing in Dhaka’s first, second and third divisions, each entitled to one councillor. Category 3 includes former cricketers and various affiliated organisations.
The board has sanctioned the creation of a three-member election commission to oversee and conduct the election. The commission will consist of one representative from the Ministry of Youth and Sports or the National Sports Council, alongside two members nominated by the BCB. BCB president Tamim had previously indicated the board’s intention to hold the election in the second week of June.
Meanwhile, another decision was taken in Monday’s meeting. Coca Cola Bangladesh has been approved as the official drinking water and beverage partner of the Bangladesh Cricket Board for two years.
