Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has intensified traffic law enforcement in the capital using CCTV footage.
Under the “e-traffic prosecution” system, automated notices are being issued to vehicle owners and drivers involved in traffic rule violations, illegal parking, use of unfit or unregistered vehicles, and obstruction of roads.
According to a DMP statement, recipients of the notice must appear before the concerned traffic division or DMP headquarters and settle fines under the Road Transport Act 2018 through banks or mobile banking.
The statement said failure to comply with the notice may lead to further legal action, including issuance of summons or arrest warrants.
Authorities have also warned the public not to engage in any financial transactions or share personal information outside the official process.
They said any fraudulent attempt to harass individuals by sending false CCTV footage should be reported immediately to the nearest police station or traffic office.
The DMP further said AI-powered CCTV cameras have been installed at key intersections across Dhaka. These systems detect violations such as ignoring traffic signals, crossing stop lines, wrong-way driving, unauthorised passenger pickup, illegal parking and blocking designated lanes.
