Jose Mourinho has denied any contact with Real Madrid after reports linked him with a return to the Bernabeu. The 63-year-old spoke on Friday and rejected claims of talks with his former club.
Spanish media had reported potential negotiations, including contract terms, as Madrid assess options after a trophyless 2025–26 season. The club still trails Barcelona in La Liga and faces another title loss.
Mourinho said, “No, nobody from Real Madrid has spoken to me. I can confirm that. I have been in football for many years, just like you have been in journalism. We are used to this, but nothing has come from Real Madrid.”
Madrid exited the Champions League after defeats to Bayern Munich across both legs. The result increased pressure on the club to appoint an experienced manager with a European record.
Mourinho managed Madrid until 2013. His name often returns in coaching debates at the club due to his previous spell and relationship with president Florentino Pérez.
Madrid last made a surprise appointment in 2021 when they brought back Carlo Ancelotti. He had managed Everton at the time. That move delivered results, including European success.
Current speculation links Madrid with several senior coaches, but Mourinho’s comments remove one option from the immediate frame.
