Chattogram Port marked its 139th founding anniversary on Friday with ceremonies, prayers, and day-long activities across the port area, the authority said in a press release.
The day began at 12:01am as vessels anchored at the port sounded their whistles simultaneously for one minute to observe “Port Day 2026”. Special prayers were held at mosques and temples seeking peace for deceased officials and employees and prosperity for the port and the country.
Chattogram Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman hoisted the national flag at the Port Building, while the Member for Harbor raised the port flag. Senior officials and project directors were present.
“The port is the lifeline of the national economy, and ongoing development projects will strengthen economic growth,” said Chattogram Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman.
Educational activities included video screenings on port operations for students of port-affiliated schools and colleges, alongside a day-long presentation at the One Stop Building. Special meals were served to in-patients at the port hospital.
The port premises, including areas around the Port Building and Shah Amanat International Airport, were decorated with banners and festoons to mark the anniversary.
A commemorative cake-cutting ceremony was held after the flag hoisting, where the chairman joined officials, staff, and representatives of different organisations. He said the infrastructure upgrades would support employment and contribute to national development.
