Govt urges UK to expand scholarships for students

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has called upon the United Kingdom (UK)  to broaden the scope of its scholarships to provide more higher education opportunities for Bangladeshi students.

The request was made during a courtesy meeting with the British Deputy High Commissioner, James Goldman, held on Thursday.

The minister expressed his sincere gratitude for the United Kingdom’s continuous cooperation across various sectors, particularly in education.

He also highly commended the British Council for its significant role in the development of English language education within the country.

In response, the British delegation expressed high praise for the various steps taken by the Bangladesh government in the education sector.

Both parties shared their optimism that bilateral relations and cooperation between the two nations would continue to expand in the future.

The meeting was also attended by Bobby Hajjaj, minister of State for Primary and Mass Education, and Mahdi Amin, adviser for Education and Primary and Mass Education.

Other senior officials present during the discussions included Mohammad Golam Kibria, team leader of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO); Stephen Forbes, country director of the British Council; and Dipti Das, head of English and School Education at the British Council.
