Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany insisted on Tuesday that Jamal Musiala will soon unleash his full brilliance again, as the German champions prepare for a crucial cup semi-final and a Champions League showdown after his long injury lay-off.
Musiala’s season derailed last July when he suffered a fractured fibula and a damaged ankle after colliding with Gianluigi Donnarumma.
He returned in January and eased himself back into rhythm. Now Kompany sees a player rebuilding not just touch, but power and intent.
“Jamal is in a good phase at the moment,” Kompany said. He pointed to physical growth as the key shift, noting the midfielder now runs harder and competes stronger.
“I said it early on, back in January, that he’s developed physically. He’s now also physically close to his best level, not just in terms of strength but also in terms of his willingness to run.” it is relevant, because Musiala’s game thrives on sharp bursts and fearless dribbles.
Kompany then addressed the bigger question hovering over Munich. “Now the question is when will ‘Magic Musiala’ return? It will come 100%.”
He already sees glimpses. “The moments are there. But even now, what the lad is doing at the moment is very dangerous in front of goal.” That edge shows in the numbers as well, with nine direct goal involvements in just 600 minutes.
Serge Gnabry carried Bayern through Musiala’s absence but now sits out with injury. That absence shifts responsibility straight back onto Musiala’s shoulders at exactly the wrong time for opponents.
Bayern enter a defining stretch. They face Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup semi-final, then travel to meet Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League semi-final first leg.
Kompany wants more than flashes. “When he has this total freedom again, and it will come back, then you will have an even more developed version of Musiala and that, as a coach, makes me happy.”
He finished with a simple verdict. “But with nine scorer points in 600 minutes he has shown he is ready.” Clearly indicating he is ready to unleash the best version of Musiala.
