The capital market ended mixed on Thursday as investors remained cautious ahead of corporate earnings announcements and closely monitored developments in Middle East ceasefire talks.
The benchmark DSEX inched up 0.03 per cent to close at 5,257.
The Shariah Index DSES edged down 0.03 per cent, while the blue-chip index DS30 gained 0.3 per cent.
Trading remained volatile until mid-session, with opportunistic buying in speculative and momentum-driven stocks driving selective price gains, EBL Securities Research said in its post-closing market commentary.
However, continued selling pressure on major large-cap scrips kept the overall market subdued, leaving the index nearly flat at close, it added.
Turnover declined 3.6 per cent to Tk806 crore, according to DSE data.
Engineering led the turnover chart with 16.4 per cent of the total, followed by pharmaceuticals with 12.0 per cent, while the textiles sector contributed 11.3 per cent to the day’s total turnover on the DSE.
Sectoral performance was mixed, with information technology gaining 1.3 per cent, tannery 1.0 per cent and ceramics 0.8 per cent.
On the downside, paper fell by 1.2 per cent, jute declined by 0.9 per cent and travel dropped by 0.5 per cent.
Out of 397 traded issues, 130 advanced, 196 declined and 70 remained unchanged.
The Chattogram Stock Exchange also showed a mixed trend within a narrow range, with the Selective Categories Index falling by 2.2 points and the All Share Price Index declining by 4.9 points.
