South Indian superstar Vijay’s upcoming film ‘Jana Nayagan’ has been hit by a major piracy breach, with police arresting six people over the alleged leak of its high-definition print online.
According to the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing, a high-quality version of the film, reportedly made on a budget of around ₹350 crore (Tk4.6 crore), surfaced on multiple digital platforms on April 10. Following a complaint, investigators launched a digital forensic probe that led to the identification and arrest of the accused on April 12.
Authorities said an organised network was involved in distributing pirated copies through cloud storage services and shared download links. Several digital devices were seized during the operation and the accused have since been remanded in judicial custody.
Officials have also blocked more than 300 illegal links as part of efforts to curb further circulation of the pirated content. A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Information Technology Act, the Copyright Act and the Cinematograph Act.
Police have warned that downloading or sharing pirated material is a punishable offence and urged the public to report suspicious links to the National Cyber Crime Portal.
Jaanayagan, directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, is among the most anticipated Tamil releases and is widely reported to be one of Vijay’s final films before he transitions to full-time politics with his party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam.
The film also stars Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj and Priyamani.
