The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will meet all Dhaka Premier League clubs on Thursday to break the deadlock around the tournament. The aim is to fix the player transfer window and decide when the league can start.
The meeting will take place at the BCB office at 6:30 pm. It will begin with a tea session. The board hopes the talks will help the league begin soon.
The Dhaka Premier League has not started on time this year. For weeks, there was doubt over whether it would be held at all. This created concern among players.
The delay came after a dispute between the now removed board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul and Dhaka’s sports organisers. The issue followed the recent BCB election. Many cricketers shared their frustration on social media.
After the board was dissolved, ad hoc president Tamim Iqbal spoke about the matter on Wednesday. He addressed the media after a board meeting. His comments gave some hope that the situation will improve.
The Dhaka Premier League is a key source of income for local cricketers. That is why the delay caused strong concern.
There is also a chance that the red ball Bangladesh Cricket League could be delayed because of the Dhaka Premier League schedule.
Tamim said, “The Premier League was a very important matter. We have decided that we will sit with every team very soon.”
“Our goal is to discuss with them and fix the transfer window as quickly as possible, and then start the matches.”
He also spoke about ground issues.
“There is some concern about grounds. But if needed, we will even rent venues,” he said.
“There are now many private academies that are good enough to host first-class matches. If required, we will go that way.”
