Bogura could return to the international cricket calendar within 18 months, provided redevelopment work at the venue proceeds without delay, a senior Bangladesh Cricket Board official has said.
BCB Grounds and Facilities Management Department manager Syed Abdul Baten told reporters at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday that the BCB and National Sports Council (NSC) are jointly working to bring the ground up to modern international standards.
“We are looking at how to further improve it — floodlights, giant screens, gallery seating, pavilion facilities, media infrastructure, and particularly the drainage system,” Baten said.
A joint NSC-BCB inspection team has already assessed the venue, with a full architectural design and Bill of Quantities currently being drawn up. Baten indicated that sustained, uninterrupted work could see the project completed within a year and a half.
He tied the redevelopment firmly to Bangladesh’s broader hosting ambitions, citing the Asia Cup in 2027 and the ICC World Cup in 2031 as key targets driving the push to upgrade facilities nationwide.
Should the schedule hold, Bogura could realistically be in contention to host international fixtures again by 2028 — marking a significant return for a ground that previously held international status but has since fallen short of current requirements.
