Police discovered the bodies of a young couple hanging from a tree in Bogachhari village, located in Bhushanchhara Union of Barkal Upazila, Rangamati, on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Subhash Kanti Chakma, 26, son of Suresh Kanti Chakma from Kaptai Upazila, and Ena Chakma, 18, daughter of Shanti Chakma from Bogachhari village in Bhushanchhara.
Local sources report that the couple had been in a long-standing romantic relationship. However, Subhash Kanti Chakma was already married. When their families, as well as Subhash’s wife, became aware of the affair, they expressed strong disapproval of the relationship and any potential marriage.
It is believed that the couple, facing opposition from both families, tragically decided to take their own lives on Monday night.
