Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has reported strong growth in cargo handling, container throughput, and vessel traffic for the first nine months of the 2025–26 fiscal year, compared to the same period last year.
The port handled 104.29 million metric tons of cargo from July to March, marking a 7.39 per cent increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.
October 2025 alone saw a 21.11 per cent surge in cargo movement, driven by increased imports of fuel and industrial raw materials.
Container operations grew by 4.75 per cent, with significant increases in August and September, up 20.10 per cent and 10.22 per cent, respectively. The port handled 2,572,346 TEUs during this period.
Vessel handling efficiency improved, reducing the average turnaround time from over four days to just 2.53 days.
A record 391 vessels were handled in October 2025, a 16.02 per cent increase from the previous year. In total, 3,230 vessels were handled between July and March, marking a 5.62 per cent increase.
The CPA attributed these gains to improved leadership, technology adoption, and streamlined management practices. The transfer of the New Mooring Container Terminal to Chittagong Drydock Limited increased operational efficiency by 12–14 per cent.
Modernisation initiatives, including online e-gate passes, a Terminal Operating System, and the ‘CPA Sky’ platform, have significantly improved speed, transparency, and service delivery. Cargo clearance time has been reduced to as little as 30 minutes in many cases.
During the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, the port ensured 24/7 operations, handling 2.5 million tons of cargo and 55,000 TEUs in just one week, maintaining supply chain stability.
The implementation of the Pre-Arrival Process has allowed for quicker customs clearance before vessels arrive, reducing congestion.
The CPA remains optimistic that ongoing modernisation efforts will continue to support Bangladesh’s expanding trade and logistics sector.
