The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a directive for the removal of all inter-district bus counters operating outside designated terminals in the capital within seven working days.
According to a public notice issued by DMP Headquarters on Sunday, inter-district bus operations – including ticket counters, parking, and passenger pick-up or drop-off – will only be permitted at the Gabtoli, Mohakhali, and Sayedabad terminals.
The directive aims to reduce traffic congestion and modernise the city’s traffic management system to improve services for citizens. The DMP noted that unauthorised night coach counters and their operations in various parts of the city are causing significant traffic disruptions, even during the night.
The authorities have requested all concerned parties to self-evict or remove counters located outside the three designated terminal areas within the seven-day deadline.
The notice warned that failure to comply will result in strict legal action through mobile courts and summary trials conducted by DMP executive magistrates.
Under sections 37, 47, 82, and 90 of the Road Transport Act, 2018, offenders may face imprisonment, fines, the cancellation of route permits, and the seizure of related goods.
The public notice was signed by DMP Commissioner (Acting) Md Sarwar.
