Police and Detective Branch (DB) teams arrested two Jamaat-e-Islami leaders on Sunday over an attack on police personnel inside Palashbari police station in Gaibandha.
The arrestees are Palash Ahmed, 35, Baitul Mal secretary of Palashbari upazila Jubo Jamaat, and Golzar Rahman, 34, a rukon of Palashbari upazila Jamaat.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Palashbari police station and detectives carried out the operation.
Earlier, three other Jamaat leaders had been arrested and sent to court in connection with the incident, raising the total number of arrestees to five.
Police said the attack took place on the night of 25 March when leaders and activists of Jubo Jamaat entered Palashbari police station around 9:30pm. They assaulted Officer-in-Charge Sarowar Alam and seven other police personnel.
Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin, who was injured during the assault, subsequently filed a case against the Jamaat leaders and activists.
