Amidst the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, visitors have flocked to various entertainment centres in Khagrachhari, a district renowned for its natural beauty.
From the second day of Eid, a vibrant presence of locals has been observed across the hills, clouds, waterfalls, and lush greenery of the district.
Local visitors were seen exploring popular spots such as Alutila, the Horticulture Park, and Risang Fountain with their families. While movement began on Eid day itself, it was primarily dominated by the local population.
However, the number of outside tourists is somewhat lower this year compared to previous years. According to stakeholders, a fuel crisis has led to a decrease in private vehicle movement, resulting in fewer long-distance travellers than expected.
This has impacted hotel and resort bookings, with reports of many cancellations across several establishments.
Despite this, those involved in the tourism sector remain optimistic. They believe the number of visitors to the district’s other attractions may increase once tourists begin returning from Sajek Valley.
Md Sajedul Islam and Yasmin Akter, visiting from Mohammadpur, Dhaka, along with Laboni Akter and Ismail Hossain from Halishahar, Chattogram, said, “The tourist spots in Khagrachhari are truly beautiful and worth seeing. Especially Alutila Tourism, from where the entire view of Khagrachhari town and the winding Chengi River can be seen. The District Council Horticulture Park and Risang Fountain are notable.”
Kaching Marma, manager of the Khagrachhari Tourism Motel, stated, “The expected number of tourists for this Eid holiday has not arrived in Khagrachhari; many have cancelled their room bookings.”
While Khagrachhari saw fewer visitors, it is reported that Sajek in Rangamati has received a large rush of tourists.
Regarding safety, Nishat Roy, sub-inspector of the Khagrachhari Tourist Police, said, “Tourist police are constantly alert and deployed at the tourism centres to ensure that tourists can travel safely.”
