The government has appointed vice-chancellors to seven public universities, aiming to strengthen academic administration.

The Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education issued separate notifications on Wednesday with approval from the Chancellor.

Professor Dr Md Faridul Islam of the Marketing Department has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University.

Professor Dr Mohammad Al Forkan of the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Department has been named Vice-Chancellor of Chattogram University.

Professor Dr Md Rais Uddin of the Islamic Studies Department will serve as Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University.

Professor Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman of Dhaka University has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University.

Professor Md Nurul Islam, currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor of National University, has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka Central University.

Professor Dr Mohammad Abu Zafar Khan will take charge as Vice-Chancellor of Islamic Arabic University.

Professor Dr Muhammad Masud of the Mechanical Engineering Department has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology.

Each vice-chancellor will serve a four-year term from the date of joining.

They will receive salaries, allowances and benefits as per existing rules and will act as full-time chief executive officers, remaining present on campus.

The notifications, signed by Additional Secretary (University) Alif Rudaba on behalf of the President, said the appointments were made under relevant university laws and took immediate effect.

Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said the appointments aim to bring greater dynamism to public university administration.
