The deadline for withdrawing candidacies in the elections for Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3 constituencies of the Jatiya Sangsad is Saturday.
Election Commission officials said candidates may withdraw their nominations by submitting applications to the respective returning officers within office hours on the day.
According to the election schedule, voting for the Bogura-6 by-election and the Sherpur-3 general election will be held on April 9 from 7:30am to 4:30pm using ballot papers and transparent ballot boxes without interruption.
A total of five candidates submitted nomination papers for the Sherpur-3 general election.
They are BNP candidate Md Mahmudul Haque Rubel, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Masudur Rahman, one candidate each from Islami Andolon Bangladesh and the Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist), and an independent contender.
Following scrutiny by the returning officer, no candidate filed an appeal and all remain valid contenders.
The election in Sherpur-3 was deferred during the 13th parliamentary election held on February 12 after the death of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate.
The Election Commission later announced a fresh schedule for the constituency.
For the Bogura-6 by-election, three candidates submitted nomination papers.
They are BNP candidate Md Rezaul Karim Badsha, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Abidur Rahman, and one candidate from the Bangladesh Development Party.
After scrutiny by the returning officer, no appeals were filed and all candidates remain valid.
The Bogura-6 seat fell vacant after Bangladesh Nationalist Party Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman won the constituency in the 12 February election but later vacated it after retaining Dhaka-17, as a member of parliament cannot hold two seats simultaneously.
According to the schedule, 14 March is the final day for withdrawing nominations, while election symbols will be allocated on 15 March.
