Unidentified attackers set fire to the house of Mohammad Saifullah, organisational secretary of the Dhaka University unit of National Citizen Party associate organisation Chhatra Shakti.
Saifullah disclosed the incident in a Facebook status on Thursday night.
“Inna lillah, terrorists have attacked my house and set it on fire. My mother is calling me crying,” he wrote in the post. Saifullah also serves as social welfare secretary of Haji Muhammad Muhsin Hall Students’ Parliament at Dhaka University.
His home is located in Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh district.
The incident occurred days after allegations were raised against Saifullah over the assault of Dhaka University student Rahid Khan Pavel on 8 March.
Pavel was accused of being linked to Bangladesh Chhatra League. After the assault, Pavel was taken to Shahbagh Police Station.
Saifullah later posted on Facebook about the incident, writing that a Chhatra League member had been detained on campus and taken to the police station.
“No concession will be given on the question of League,” he wrote in the post.
Pavel later alleged that leaders and activists of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement assaulted him.
The fire incident occurred shortly after the controversy surrounding the assault.
