The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced specific traffic diversions and restrictions in the capital on Thursday, to facilitate the first session of National Parliament.
High-profile dignitaries, including president, prime minister, members of Parliament, foreign diplomats, leaders of various political parties, and other eminent personalities, are scheduled to travel to the Parliament House for the session.
According to a directive from the DMP Traffic Division, a higher volume of vehicles is expected at Urojahaj Mor, Khejur Bagan, Manik Mia Avenue, Asadgate, and the July Meorial Museum (Ganabhaban) Crossing. To mitigate temporary public inconvenience, traffic will be controlled and diverted from 8am to 11am.
Diversion routes and alternative roads –
• Indira Road to Begum Rokeya Sarani: Vehicles travelling from Indira Road towards Begum Rokeya Sarani via Urojahaj Mor are advised not to take a right turn. They must proceed straight through Manik Mia Avenue and use Mirpur Road to reach their destinations.
• Manik Mia Avenue to Begum Rokeya Sarani: Vehicles heading from Manik Mia Avenue towards Begum Rokeya Sarani via Khejur Bagan are instructed not to take a left turn. These vehicles should instead travel through Farmgate to reach their destinations.
Moreover, one-way traffic will be enforced on both sides of the road stretching from Urojahaj Mor to Khejur Bagan, moving in a southward direction.
The DMP has requested all vehicle drivers to strictly follow these instructions to avoid traffic congestion during the specified period. The police department also sought the full cooperation of city residents to ensure the smooth movement of traffic during the parliamentary session.
