Abdullah Al Amin, NCP MP from Narayanganj-4, was confined for over two hours inside a garment factory in the city’s BSCIC industrial area Tuesday evening after calling Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) President Mohammad Hatem a “fascist’s ally” during a Jamaat-e-Islami iftar event.
The incident occurred near Gate 1 of the BSCIC industrial zone just before iftar, according to Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Fatulla Model Police Station.
Both Al Amin and Hatem had been invited as guests to the event.
Upon seeing Hatem, Al Amin refused to sit on the stage, stating, “I will not share a platform with a fascist’s accomplice.”
Following the remark, Hatem left the stage, and his supporters staged a protest, confining the MP for nearly an hour.
Local police quickly intervened, dispersing the crowd and restoring order.
Fatulla Police Inspector Anwar Hossain confirmed the situation was brought under control and reported no injuries during the incident.
