The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has granted a one-month extension for submissions under the government’s film grant programme for the 2025–26 fiscal year.
Filmmakers now have until April 1 to submit complete package proposals. The earlier deadline for story outlines, screenplays and production plans had been set for March 1. The extension was confirmed by Joint Secretary Mahfuza Akhter.
The ministry had previously invited submissions from producers, directors, writers, screenwriters, film professionals and institutions for both full-length and short films. To date, 189 proposals for feature films and 140 for short films have been received in three phases.
Officials indicated that this is expected to be the final extension and expressed hope that the required number of quality proposals will be secured within the revised timeframe.
For the upcoming fiscal year, the government plans to award grants to 32 projects, up to 12 full-length features and 20 short films, as part of efforts to strengthen the film industry and nurture creative talent.
Applicants must submit one original copy of their proposal along with 12 additional sets for both categories.
Industry observers believe the extended window may heighten competition, as filmmakers are likely to use the extra time to refine and strengthen their submissions, potentially raising the overall standard of entries.
