Factories at the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Industrial Estate in Rajbari are working round the clock ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, setting a production target of around 50 tonnes of semai (vermicelli) this season.
Two major units — Kazi Food and Din Flower Mill — are now operating at full capacity to meet rising demand, officials said.
On site, workers were seen producing semai from refined flour before drying it in the sun and processing it for consumption. Workers are using gloves and protective clothing while packaging the product to maintain hygiene standards.
Workers said strict quality control measures were being followed to ensure safe and healthy food for consumers. Demand for Rajbari’s fine semai has expanded beyond local markets, reaching wholesalers in several districts.
Kazi Food craftsman Sajjad Hossain said there was hardly any respite before Eid but expressed satisfaction that thousands of families would celebrate with their products. He said cleanliness remained their top priority.
Din Flower Mill worker Anita Halder said employees were working from morning until night, adding that the factory ensured quality flour and a hygienic environment.
Another worker, Shefali Khatun, said wholesalers from outside districts were collecting semai due to its quality, while staff used masks and gloves during packaging to protect food standards.
Rajbari BSCIC Industrial Estate Officer Md Hafizur Rahman said factories were operating extended hours under regular supervision to ensure consumers received safe and quality products.
Rajbari BSCIC District Office Assistant General Manager Chayan Biswas said factories had been instructed to strictly follow hygiene and food safety regulations. He said daily production ranged between 1,000 and 1,500 kilogrammes, with the overall Eid target set at about 50 tonnes.
Officials said after meeting local demand, the semai would be supplied to other parts of the country, contributing positively to the district’s economy.
