Former Narayanganj mayor and senior Awami League leader Selina Hayat Ivy has been shown arrested in the murder case filed over the death of Selim Mondal during the anti-discrimination student movement in Siddhirganj.
Her bail petition was also rejected by the court.
Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Selina Khatun passed the order on Monday. Ivy’s lawyers had applied for bail, but the court denied the request after hearing the arguments.
According to the case details, on 20 July, 2024, during the anti-discrimination student movement, a building in Shimarail, Siddhirganj, was set on fire.
Selim Mondal, working on interior decoration for Dutch-Bangla Bank, and two other labourers died in the blaze.
On 30 June last year, a farmer named Wazed Ali filed a murder case with the Siddhirganj Police Station over the incident.
On 26 February, police applied to the court to show Ivy arrested in the case.
Ivy is currently facing a total of 11 cases of murder and attempted murder across various police stations in Narayanganj, though she has already been granted bail in five of them by the High Court.
Earlier, on 9 May, 2025, Ivy was arrested from her residence at Chunka Kuthi in the Deobhog area and has since been held at Kashimpur Jail.
