BYD Bangladesh on Saturday launched the Sealion 5, a DM-i Super Plug-in Hybrid SUV with a combined range of up to 1,000 kilometres, pricing it at Tk47.90 lakh for the first 500 customers.
The unveiling ceremony was held at International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital, according to a press release.
CG Runner BD Ltd Chairman Hafizur Rahman Khan and CG Runner BD Ltd Managing Director Amid Sakif Khan attended the programme along with customers, corporate stakeholders and media representatives.
The Sealion 5 is powered by a 1,500cc high-efficiency engine paired with an electric motor under BYD’s DM-i Super Plug-in Hybrid system.
The company said the vehicle offers up to 71 kilometres of pure electric range for daily commuting while retaining flexibility for long-distance travel.
The SUV produces a combined maximum power of 156 kilowatts and 300 Newton metres of torque, accelerating from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in 7.7 seconds.
Safety features include seven airbags, the BYD Blade Battery, Vehicle-to-Load function and an Advanced Driver Assistance System.
The interior includes a 12.8-inch infotainment display and a panoramic sunroof within a spacious cabin layout.
“Customers today are looking for efficiency, comfort and long-term value in one complete package,” said BYD Bangladesh Chief Marketing Officer Imtiaz Nawsher.
“With DM-i technology at its core, the Sealion 5 delivers electric-like driving for daily use while ensuring flexibility for longer journeys,” he said.
The warranty package includes eight years or 160,000 kilometres for the traction battery, eight years or 150,000 kilometres for the motor and six years or 150,000 kilometres for the vehicle.
BYD Bangladesh handed over 25 pre-ordered units to customers at the launch event.
“The response before the launch indicates strong demand in this segment,” said BYD Bangladesh Head of Sales Fahmid Ferdous.
The company said the launch expands its New Energy Vehicle portfolio as it seeks to widen access to hybrid and electric mobility solutions in the country.
