Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain and the Moroccan national team, is set to face trial for rape, according to a statement he made on social media on Tuesday. Hakimi has denied the allegation.
“Today, a rape accusation is enough to trigger a trial, even though I deny it and all evidence proves it is false,” Hakimi wrote on X. “This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to genuine victims. I will calmly await the trial, which will allow the truth to be revealed publicly.”
The Nanterre prosecutor’s office began an investigation into Hakimi in 2023 following an allegation of rape. Requests for immediate comment from the prosecutor’s office were not answered.
Hakimi, 28, has previously been regarded as one of the top defenders in European football. The announcement of the trial comes amid ongoing discussions about player conduct and legal responsibilities in professional football.
