At least six people were injured in a clash between supporters of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in Natore’s Baraigram on Saturday morning.
The incident took place around 10:30am in the Dhanaidaha Purvapara area of the upazila, police and witnesses said.
Several rounds of gunshots were fired during the confrontation and a number of houses were vandalised.
The seriously injured include 8th Ward BNP President Asab Sarkar and Nagar Union Jamaat Amir Hasinur Rahman.
Baraigram Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdus Salam said the clash stemmed from a dispute over a local election.
Tension reportedly began on Friday afternoon when BNP activists allegedly assaulted a Jamaat worker, Sabbir, at Dhanaidaha Bazar.
Jamaat supporters later beat Asab Sarkar on Saturday morning in retaliation, triggering a wider clash between the two groups.
