The 13th National Parliamentary Election in Chattogram Division saw a 31.59% voter turnout during the first five and a half hours of polling on Thursday.
According to data provided by the office of the Chattogram Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer at 1pm, the 16 constituencies within Chattogram District recorded a turnout of 26.30%.
Khagrachhari district reported the highest level of participation in the division with a 40% turnout, whereas Chandpur district saw the lowest at 22%.
Other districts in the division recorded varying figures: Cox’s Bazar at 37.75%, Lakshmipur at 37%, and Feni at 33.17%. Noakhali recorded 32.08%, followed by Brahmanbaria at 30.18%. Both Cumilla and Rangamati reported turnouts of 30%, while Bandarban stood at 29%.
In Chattogram District, the Chattogram-9 (Kotwali-Bakalia) constituency experienced the highest voter turnout, while the Chattogram-11 (Bandar-Patenga) seat recorded the lowest.
Md Ziauddin, the divisional commissioner and returning officer for five city and city-adjacent constituencies, stated that voters have been casting their ballots in a smooth and unimpeded environment.
A total of 115 candidates are vying for the 16 seats in the Chattogram District. The district has a total of 6,682,517 registered voters, consisting of 3,483,887 men, 3,198,560 women, and 70 individuals from the Hijra community.
The polling process, which commenced at 7:30 AM, is scheduled to conclude at 4:30 PM. Voters have been seen at various centres across the district throughout the morning.
To ensure a peaceful atmosphere, members of the law enforcement agencies are maintained on high alert at the polling stations.
Meanwhile, 43 percent votes were cast in Chittagong-1 constituency, 22 percent in Chittagong-2 constituency, 35 percent in Chittagong-3 constituency, 38 percent in Chittagong-4 constituency, 29 percent in Chittagong-5 constituency, 30 percent in Chittagong-6 constituency, 43 percent in Chittagong-7 constituency, 29 percent in Chittagong-8 constituency, 28 percent in Chittagong-9 constituency, 30 percent in Chittagong-10 constituency, 28 percent in Chittagong-11 constituency, 44 percent in Chittagong-12 constituency, 39 percent in Chittagong-13 constituency, 44 percent in Chittagong-14 constituency, 49 percent in Chittagong-15 constituency, and 39 percent in Chittagong-16 constituency.
