Belal Uddin, ameer of Jamaat‑e‑Islami Thakurgaon district unit, has been detained with a large amount of cash.
He was detained at Saidpur Airport on Wednesday morning.
Nilphamari Superintendent of Police Sheikh Zahidul Islam Khan confirmed the matter, saying that the seized cash is being counted by machine.
According to the latest update at 1pm, Tk50 lakh had been counted so far, with the process still ongoing.
The detention was made a day before the 13th parliamentary election.
