Bangladesh national team defender Zayyan Ahmed has taken the next step in his career by joining UAE third-division club Rimal Al Sahra SC, making his debut on Tuesday in the UAE FA Cup preliminary round.
The American-born left-back featured against Majd FC, coming on early in the second half as Rimal Al Sahra chased progress. The match finished 2-2 before Majd edged the tie 10-9 on penalties.
Rimal Al Sahra may be young, but they move with purpose. Founded in 2025, the club currently sit second in the UAE Third Division and eye promotion to the Second Division next season.
Zayyan entered the match in the 46th minute, replacing English left-back Tylah Sanchez. The substitution underlined the trust the coaching staff already place in the Bangladeshi defender.
Born and raised in the United States, Zayyan grew up in football through his father Sharif Ahmed, a former player. He built his base at university level before testing himself in Bangladesh.
That decision paid off quickly. Strong performances at trials in Dhaka led to AFC Under-23 appearances and eventually a senior national team call-up.
Zayyan made his Bangladesh debut against Hong Kong on October 9 and added two more caps soon after. His pace and technical comfort down the left flank earned quick approval from supporters.
After featuring against India on November 18, he returned to the United States to continue his studies while staying match-fit. He also attended trials in Canada, widening his options.
Clubs reviewed his performance data and match footage during that period. After weighing development, exposure and playing time, Zayyan settled on the UAE as the right platform.
