As part of final preparations for the 13th parliamentary election and referendum, ballot boxes, papers, and all necessary election materials are being dispatched to polling centres throughout the country.
According to the Election Commission’s pre‑scheduled plan, ballot boxes will reach Dhaka and other major cities by Wednesday evening. By midnight, ballot papers, boxes, and other election materials will arrive at voting centres outside Dhaka.
The Election Commission said that nearly 9,58,000 members of law enforcement agencies have been deployed nationwide for the parliamentary election and referendum. In addition, 2,098 executive magistrates and 657 judicial magistrates have been assigned.
Voting will take place on Thursday (12 February) from 7:30am to 4:30pm. Voters will cast their votes on two ballot papers — a white ballot for electing Members of Parliament, and a pink ballot for the referendum.
In this election, 8,770 polling centres across the country have been identified as highly risky, while 16,000 stations are considered moderately risky.
Earlier, Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said that CCTV cameras have been installed in more than 90 percent of polling centres across 299 constituencies in the 13th national election.
Meanwhile, in Chattogram, the distribution of election materials began around 11am after preparatory activities were completed.
Election materials for the city’s five parliamentary constituencies were handed over to officials from the Chattogram District Stadium. Earlier, materials for other constituencies in the district were distributed from the offices of assistant returning officers.
A total of 1,965 polling centres in the district are receiving these materials.
Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Ziauddin said preparations have been made to conduct the election in a festive atmosphere. He also said that he does not see any risks surrounding the election.
All relevant agencies are working in coordination to ensure the general election is conducted smoothly, with special attention given to vulnerable polling centres, he added.
