Former India cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra has dismissed claims that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was at risk of punishment for missing the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said the ICC’s statement that no sanctions would be imposed had been overstated. “Bangladesh did not want to play, and the ICC removed them from the World Cup. The discussion should have ended there,” he said.
Chopra also noted that the India–Pakistan match remains scheduled for 15 February, with Bangladesh’s absence unchanged. “Bangladesh were out earlier, and Bangladesh are still out. Nothing has changed,” he added.
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to play India, following discussions with the ICC and requests from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, has been credited with preventing BCB from facing any major sanction. This also allows Bangladesh to host ICC events between 2028 and 2031, maintaining the country’s standing in international cricket.
