Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, nayeb-e-ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has said that, while everything has changed through elections before, the fundamental needs of the people have not been met.
He said, “If we form the government, we will bid farewell to corruption. We will establish democracy. We will establish everyone’s rights. Therefore, the election on the upcoming 12th of February will be a milestone in building a qualitatively new Bangladesh.”
He said these things as the chief guest at an election rally organised in support of Jamaat-e-Islami nominated candidate and the party’s Assistant Secretary General, AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, in the island upazila of Kutubdia, Cox’s Bazar, on Thursday.
A gathering of central leaders of the 11-party alliance was brought together at this public meeting. Among them were the convener of the National Citizen Party, Nahid Islam, the Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Maulana Yusuf Ashraf, and the Secretary General of Bangladesh Nizam-e-Islam Party, Mufti Musa bin Izhar.
At the public meeting, Nahid Islam said, “We have all united to free tomorrow’s Bangladesh from terrorism, fascism, and hegemony. And in the upcoming election, for Bangladesh’s symbol, for these two constituencies of Cox’s Bazar, everyone will vote for the scales symbol.”
He said, “It is being said that a new oppressor has been created. Certainly we are seeing a new oppressor being created. They are the new oppressors who have started extortion anew after the 5th of August.”
He said, “We have stated very clearly – who will form the government in Bangladesh, who will be elected, who will go to the government, will be determined by the people of Bengal. No conspiracy from Delhi will be accepted. Never again will a subservient government to Delhi be able to sit in Bangladesh.”
Speaking as the chief guest, Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said, “Kutubdia is important for two reasons. This region is extremely important economically, geographically, and what is very important is sea connectivity, which is extremely crucial for the economic sector and for business.”
At this public meeting, leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and the 11-party alliance at the district and upazila levels gave speeches.
Around 12:30pm, Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Nahid Islam, Maulana Yusuf Ashraf, and Mufti Musa bin Izhar, landed at the Kutubdia Upazila Parishad field by special helicopter.
