Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague has emerged as the frontrunner for the 51st César Awards, leading the nominations with a total of 10.
The France’s César Academy announced the nominees on Wednesday, ahead of the ceremony scheduled for 26 February at the Olympia in Paris.
In all, 18 films from the 2025 Official Selection received recognition, amassing 61 nominations across 21 categories. Among the top contenders, Dominik Moll’s Dossier 137 and Stéphane Demoustier’s “The Great Arch” each secured eight nominations, while Hafsia Herzi’s “The Little Sister” followed closely with seven.
Other notable films include Thierry Klifa’s “The Richest Woman in the World” with six nominations, Ugo Bienvenu’s Arco and Amélie Bonnin’s Leave One Day with four each, and Cédric Klapisch’s Colours of Time with three.
It Was Just an Accident, awarded the Palme d’Or at the 78th Festival de Cannes, receives two nominations.
Several films picked up single nominations, including Little Amélie or the Character of the Rain, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sirāt, Meteors, Black Dog, Les Belles Cicatrices, and Fille de l’Eau.
The César Awards, often described as France’s equivalent of the Oscars, will celebrate the best in French and international cinema, with Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague now positioned as the most nominated film of the year.
