Bangladesh table tennis prepares for a long-awaited return as the federation’s ad hoc committee moves to relaunch the league after four silent years, starting with a coordination meeting in Dhaka on 7 February 2026.
The last Dhaka Metropolitan League took place in October 2022, in the shadow of the pandemic’s aftermath. Since then, competitive league play drifted out of sight.
Now the Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation wants it back properly. The committee has called club officials to the federation office on Saturday afternoon to shape the league’s structure and calendar.
The organisers want order, not chaos. They plan the meeting to ensure the league returns in a cleaner, more professional format rather than a rushed comeback.
The ad hoc committee again handed tournament responsibility to national award-winning athlete and joint secretary Nasimul Haque Kochi. His name brings familiarity and continuity at a time the sport needs both.
“We have invited 25 clubs for the coordination meeting,” Kochi said, laying out the scale of the plan. His list includes 10 Premier Division men’s teams, 10 First Division men’s teams and five First Division women’s sides.
The ambition stretches beyond a single season. “We could not organise the 2025 league, so we want to balance that by holding two leagues in 2026,” he added, a practical solution to lost time.
That approach acknowledges reality. Players need matches, not promises, and table tennis survives on rhythm as much as ranking points.
The structure also brings movement between divisions. Aranima Sports drop to the First Division this season, while First Division champions Jahangir Builders step up to the Premier tier.
Back in 2022, the Premier Division featured Police Club, Wari Junior Boys Club, Paltolik Group, Uttara TT Club, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra, TT Club of Dhanmondi Central, Dhaka Mariners Young, Armanitola JS and Aranima Sports. That list now reads like a reminder of what the league once offered.
Four years without a league left a visible gap. This revival will not fix everything overnight, but it restores a pathway players badly missed.
