The 11-party alliance has pledged to modernise the Qawmi Madrasa education system and provide technical training to students if they are elected to power.
Speaking as the chief guest at an election rally on Wednesday, Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, spokesperson for the National Citizen Party (NCP), declared that Madrasa students would no longer be subjected to deprivation.
The rally, held at the National Bir Abdul Quddus Makhan Poura Mukta Mancha, was part of the NCP’s election road march.
Asif Mahmud, who is also the chairman of NCP Election Management Committee, described Brahmanbaria as a “strong fortress” for all democratic movements in Bangladesh, noting that 11 martyrs lost their lives during the 2017 anti-Modi protests in the district.
He alleged that Brahmanbaria has been historically deprived of development activities solely due to its participation in these movements.
Furthermore, he highlighted the success of the alliance’s call for state recognition of the martyrs of the Hefazat and July mass uprisings. He also expressed support for the announced salary structure for interim imams and urged its rapid implementation.
Ataullah, the 11-party alliance candidate for the Brahmanbaria-3 constituency, explained that while they were previously discouraged from entering politics, the “indiscriminate murder, disappearance, and killing” of students, farmers, and workers forced their hand.
He pointed out the lack of quality educational institutions in the eastern region and the irony of Brahmanbaria’s Titas gas powering the nation while the local population remains deprived.
Ataullah promised that, if elected, he would launch one intercity and one local train to address the district’s transport crisis. He also vowed to ensure justice for the murder of his friend, Osman Hadi.
Farhad Sohel, chief organiser of the Jatiya Jubo Shakti, spoke out against corruption, stating that the public is exhausted by extortion and land grabbing. He rejected the need for “Family Cards” or “Farmer Cards,” focusing instead on securing voting rights during the “challenge” of the 12 February election.
Endorsing the candidacy of Ataullah Amin, Brahmanbaria District Jamaat Secretary Maulana Aminul Islam urged voters to support the “Shapla Koli” (water lily bud) symbol to prevent the rise of future fascists and build a reformed, extortion-free Bangladesh.
The event was chaired by Jahangir Alam, President of Brahmanbaria District NCP, and moderated by district member Mohiuddin.
Other speakers included Brahmanbaria District NCP Member Secretary Engineer Aminul Haque and Maulana Muhasin Hasan, Central Organising Secretary of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish.
