Islami Andolan Bangladesh will not field candidates in Dhaka-13 and Bagerhat-1, where Maulana Mamunul Haque, Ameer of the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, is contesting in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The decision was confirmed by Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman, Islami Andolan Joint Secretary General and party spokesperson, who said the party’s candidates in these constituencies will be withdrawn and its support will go to Maulana Haque, according to a press release.
He added that the move was intended to honour Haque’s long-standing sacrifices and contributions to Islamic politics.
Gazi Ataur Rahman emphasised that Islami Andolan Bangladesh has no plans to form alliances with other political parties.
In constituencies where the party is not fielding candidates, it will support individuals considered honest and capable, based on principles and ideology.
