Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has said that the country has kept all branches of its military forces open to communications with Bangladesh.
The Indian Army chief made the remark on Tuesday during the armed forces’ annual press conference in the country’s capital.
He said, “In reviewing the current situation in Bangladesh, we must first understand what type of government is in power there. It is crucial to consider whether the measures they have taken are long-term (4-5 years) or short-term (4-5 months). Keeping this in mind, India will decide whether any immediate reaction is required there.”
He added, “To avoid any kind of misunderstanding or miscommunication, all three Indian military services have kept communication channels with Bangladesh completely open.”
India’s army chief has stated that he speaks regularly with Bangladesh’s current army chief. Similarly, the Navy and Air Force Chiefs are also maintaining communication, and an Indian delegation has visited there and met with all concerned parties.
“The steps currently being taken by the Bangladesh military are not actions against India’s interests. Capability development is an ongoing process that all countries, including India, undertake,” he said. “However, India is closely monitoring this matter.”
“A ‘core group’ in India regularly discusses this situation to ensure problems do not escalate due to any miscommunication, and they are continuously talking to obtain assurance where needed,” he added.
“Furthermore, the exchange of military officers for training and the travel of officers for the NDC course between the two countries continue as before.”
