The family of college student Fatema Akter Lily has filed a case with Khilgaon Police Station over her killing in South Banasree.
The family named Milon, a staff member of a nearby shop, as the prime accused.
Lily, 17, was found dead inside her home on Saturday afternoon. The police said her throat had been slashed, and a rope was discovered around her neck.
The incident occurred around 2.30pm in Lily’s home in Block E of South Banasree. Police recovered her bloodied body from a tin-shed house in front of a ten-storey building later that afternoon.
Khilgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said Lily, a student of Al Razi High School in the tenth grade, lived with her parents, who were visiting their village in Lakhai, Habiganj, at the time of the killing. Her elder sister was also away.
Sub-Inspector Jobair Hossain said a rope was tied around Lily’s neck when her body was found. “The perpetrators have not been identified yet,” he added.
The family alleged that Milon had access to the house and used it to commit the crime. Police have launched an operation to verify the claim, gathering CCTV footage and statements from neighbours.
Lily’s father, Sajib Talukdar, expressed shock over the brutal killing, while neighbours described the incident as terrifying for the community. Police said they are treating the case as murder and will press charges once the investigation is complete.
The body has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. Investigators said forensic reports will help determine whether the victim was assaulted before being killed.
