Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star, said, “We want democracy, independent journalism, and good governance.”
He was addressing an event at the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel in Banani, where BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman exchanged greetings with editors and journalists. The programme began around 11am.
The Daily Star editor also said, “Our next challenge is climate change and its impact. My request to BNP is that the party focus on the issue.”
He identified another major challenge as protecting the country’s rivers, warning, “We are polluting all of them.”
At the event, Tarique Rahman personally greeted the attending media representatives. This was his first official meeting with the media. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was present at the event.
