Azizur Rahman Mosabbir, member secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of the Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, was shot dead on Wednesday evening near Bashundhara City.
The attack took place around 8:30pm in Kazipara-Green Road area, behind the shopping complex on Gardenia Road.
Mosabbir was rushed to BRB Hospital on Panthapath after being critically injured but succumbed to his wounds, police confirmed.
Another individual, Anwar Hossain, general secretary of the Van Workers’ Union in Tejgaon, was also shot in the attack and is receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Tejgaon Zone ADC Fazlul Karim confirmed the incident and said police, with support from army personnel, cordoned off the area and conducted a search operation around 9:30pm.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby shops in an effort to identify the assailants.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and police have launched a full-scale investigation.
