The interim government will hold the upcoming national election on schedule, Adviser for Home Affairs and Agriculture, Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Monday.
He made the remarks at a press conference following the 19th meeting of the Law and Order Advisory Council Committee.
“The interim government is steadfast in conducting elections on time. Anyone attempting to disrupt the polls will fail,” he said. Adviser Chowdhury added that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to act firmly, remain vigilant, and coordinate intelligence across all units.
He said members of law enforcement will be authorised to travel to any location, including polling centres, at any time to prevent disorder or attempts to obstruct the election.
The adviser emphasised that the interim government is committed to maintaining peace and law and order nationwide. Intelligence surveillance has been increased, and law enforcement activities have been strengthened to ensure overall stability.
He urged the public and relevant authorities to cooperate in ensuring a fair electoral environment and to adhere to election codes of conduct.
On the Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi murder case, Chowdhury said, “The final charge sheet will be submitted on 7 January. So far, 11 suspects have been arrested. The government has decided to transfer the case to a speedy trial tribunal. Justice will be served during this government’s tenure.”
The meeting, chaired by the Home Adviser, reviewed the overall law and order situation, preparations for the 13th National Parliamentary Elections, progress in the Sharif Osman Hadi murder investigation, Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2, recovery of illegal and looted weapons, anti-drug campaigns, and security in border areas and Chittagong Hill Tracts.
